PAYMENT OF THE BURSARIES, MAHAPOLA SCHOLASHIPS AND ENDOWED SCHOLASHIPS FOR DAYS ON WHICH STUDENTS BOYSCOTT LECTURES AND CLASSES
All Universities/Institutes are hereby informed that students will not be entitled to receive financial assistance paid on Bursaries, Mahapola Scholarships and Endowed Scholarships for days that they boycott lectures/other classes. A deduction at the rate of 1/30. per day should be made from the monthly payment for each day that a student engages in a boycott of lectures/other classes during a given month. For convenience of accounting the deduction for each day of boycott should be Rs. 40 (Forty) subject to a maximum of the monthly award.
Universities/ Institutes when claiming reimbursements from the UGC for payments made on account of Busaries, Mahapola Scholarships (Treasury component) and Endowed Scholarships, net payments made subject to deductions should be shown on a separate line in the usual format with an explanatory note.
When the deductions made on a given month exceed the Treasury component, the excess (over and above the Treasury component) should be refunded to the Mahapola Trust Fund together with a separate list showing clearly the amount deducted from each student The amount shown in the pay sheet prepared by the Mahapola Trust Fund should not be altered; instead the net amount paid should be indicated in the remarks column.
Please note that the UGC will not reimburse any payments made to students for days on which they had boycotted lectures/classes.
This circular comes into force with immediate effect.
